Scheduling “You” time as a busy parent

As a busy parent, finding time for yourself can seem like an impossible task. Between school drop-offs, work deadlines, and soccer practices, it can feel like there's no time left for self-care. But here's the thing: taking care of yourself is crucial for your well-being and happiness. You can't pour from an empty cup, as they say.

So how can you make time for yourself when you're juggling so many responsibilities? Here are some tips from a fellow parent who's been there:

  • First things first: Make a schedule. Write down all your commitments and obligations and look for gaps in your day where you can schedule some "me" time. Maybe it's early in the morning before the kids wake up, or late at night after they've gone to bed. Whatever works for you, just make sure to carve out some time for yourself.

  • Next, Set boundaries. Let your loved ones know that you need time for yourself and ask them to respect your boundaries. Maybe that means turning off your phone for an hour or two or designating certain times of the day when you're not available. It's okay to say no sometimes!

  • Don't be afraid to Ask for help, either. Reach out to family members, friends, or a babysitter to help you with your children, even if it's just for a few hours. This will give you the time you need to take care of yourself, whether that means going for a run or taking a long, hot bath.

  • And speaking of self-care, make sure to Prioritize it! Schedule time for activities that make you feel good, whether that's reading a book, practicing yoga, or binge-watching your favorite show. Don't feel guilty for taking this time for yourself; remember that it's essential for your mental and physical health.

Of course, life as a parent is unpredictable, so it's important to be flexible. If something unexpected comes up, don't beat yourself up for missing your self-care time. Just reschedule for another day.

And finally, make self-care a habit. Schedule time for yourself regularly, and make it a part of your daily routine. Over time, it will become easier to prioritize your needs and take care of yourself.

So there you have it, some tips for scheduling "me" time as a busy parent. Remember, taking care of yourself isn't selfish; it's essential.

You got this!
