How I Get My Kids To Sleep Through The Night
When my son was born, Like most first time mom's I was begging for sleep. Of course no matter what I wanted my baby needed me and I slowly accepted less sleep. Then my son started sleeping most of the night and my body thanked him.
But that never seems to last with newborns because....
BAM! Sleep regressions! There I was with No more sleep all over again.
And I just didn't want to give it up. I was determined to find a way to get sleep back into my life. I began to do what Parents do...I frantically searched Google for a solution!
And There IS solutions.
1. Routine for ALL bed and Naps. They Suggest Bathtime then bedtime. But i say do what you find works best for you and your family. ( bed ,book, bath/ Movie to calm down,bath,bed./Changeoutfit,bed...Whatever works!) But do it for EVERY sleep time. Kids start to learn what the routine is, they cry to reject it but they also know to expect sleep and it helps A TON!!!
2. Give those kiddos a comfort something!- They have to self sooth sure, and learning comes with time, but if you know that holding them like a baby and keeping them calm and happy until sleep works to help them fall asleep, do it! They will learn to self soothe as they learn, and there is no reason to rush it because that just causes stress for you and baby. My son loves to sleep with his bottle. AND I LET HIM...BECAUSE HE SLEEPS!!! You can never make me take it away. I want sleep, he wants sleep. WE ALL WANT SLEEP!
4. Relax yourselves.- Kids pick up on everything. so when you are stressed and they see that, it's going to make them stressed and have a harder time sleeping. Relax, stay calm as long as you can through the whole process and they will stay calm, helping them go to sleep.
3. It's ok to use something to help them get comfortable. Only do this if your child is able to do this without any medical conditions that would cause issues. See video for the products I use. ( Gripe water nighttime to sooth belly issues, baby magic tea, baby Sleep drops, soothing tablets for teething discomfort
5. Don't force it if you feel like it's driving you crazy but also try to stick with it if you feel like you can take it.- This isn't the end of the world, they all sleep through the night eventually but it's about trying to get consistency for the kids to sleep daily and get that growth in. They grow when they sleep so it's important, but if they don't sleep perfectly. Its OK!
If all else fails, Cry a bit, and then remember...this too shall pass! ( they stop napping completely at 3 years old, so honestly, don't even stress it)
Every night is far from perfect but it's our normal and it really works. I hope these methods help you too!
