TRIVIA THAT TEST INSTEAD
An exciting evening is about to occur in my world because tonight I am headed to some Trivia. I love the challenge of the game and it’s even more fun when you get to play the game as a team. My fiancé and I are always a team, with a ridiculous name because it’s funny. I will have to admit, we always lose with a goal to not be in last place. That doesn’t mean that we aren’t smart people by any means, thing is, it’s hard!
When you place trivia, they typically ask questions that aren’t a straight answer or at least it’s not obvious. Those would be the easy questions that they throw in there to make sure all teams get some points. And, they will ask questions that may require a list so it requires a lot of thinking with a time limit. So again, it’s hard and for some crazy reason I love it. Here’s the funniest part, I’m a HORRIBLE test taker. You may be wondering how those two items go hand and hand but I just came up with that realization today that indeed It does. What is a test? Well it could be a lot of things but usually it’s a question with a multiple choice, match or write in answer. The subject matter varies on the course taken, right? So for someone like myself, to struggle with taking tests yet love to play trivia, what gives? Because essentially, I’m taking a test for fun, and the result is failure ultimately so that it’s not like I’m about to get this amazing reward for all my arduous work. Although some alcoholic beverages make me love trivia more by itself so that could be the main reason but I think it’s greater than that.
Here’s what I realize, it’s what the test or trivia is worth. If it’s going to define my future or if there will be some serious judgement afterwards, I become a nervous wreck and I can’t handle the tests. If there is no consequences for being the loser or by test scores getting an F. Then who really cares! And here is the best part of all of this, I can’t say I try hard at all with trivia, but with tests, I always want to do succeed. So for that adds to it, Maybe there is a real in between. I probably have to learn how to care but not too much when I take tests in order to succeed better. And for Trivia, well I’m just doing it for fun, so I’m going to keep doing it for fun. I am also going to keep watching Jeopardy and enjoy not having any idea more 90% of the questions until after they already provide the answer. Jeopardy usually makes me feel dumb, but again, it’s all for fun so who cares!
Lessons learned today:
I need to learn how care a little less about tests to do better on said tests.
Trivia is a fantastic way to learn how to take tests better in a fun environment I am a worry wart
Tuesdays are for tacos and trivia!
