The Joy Killer
Ever have a happy moment only to be awoken from joy by the cold stare of not caring? The look of why are you talking to me, or the look of you are an annoyance spewing from their every being is not just a Joy Kill but a judgment that lingers in your soul unless you decide to move past it internally. Today, we may not be face to face as often, but you can even hear the thickened silence over a phone call that reminds you of the awkward moments in almost every office meeting when someone tells a bad joke. These moments shouldn’t define us, or even be more than a passing thought. However, when the moments become a part of your daily life because they come from a relationship close to you, that’s when you begin to question, Am I the cause of your disdain?
In reality, it doesn’t matter what they think.
We can’t make others happy and we shouldn’t try to. My mother always says something that I genuinely believe we should all live by. “You aren’t placed on this planet to for someone else” What she means by this isn’t whether or not Soulmates do or don’t exist. It’s to say, we can get so easily caught up in trying to make others happy forgetting ourselves in the meantime. Becoming a shell of who we were just to please our Jobs, our partners, our parents, etc. So, if we do find some joy, and decide to share that moment with someone else. Their reactions are their own to live with. But we don’t need to have our joy destroyed because someone else thinks our happiness is unimportant or dumb.
But...Let's Face it, Their Actions hurt!
No matter what, the hurt only has power if we let it have power. It’s not for us to carry around long after the moments have passed no matter how much the Joy killer tries to destroy us.
