The 'Women Card' and the Urgent Need for Gender Equality
Playing the "women's card" may be seen by some as an excuse, and to an extent, they're not entirely wrong. After all, being a woman is a unique experience that can never truly be equated to being a man, regardless of the context. This holds true in all areas of life, including the workforce. While there are countries where being a woman in the workforce is almost on par with being a man, let's face the reality: that's far from the norm in most parts of the world. Although many countries have made strides toward achieving gender equality, humanity as a whole still has a long way to go before women are truly on an even playing field globally.
Don't believe me? Take a moment to think about the number of women in leadership positions within governments worldwide. Sure, a few names might come to mind, but when you consider the hundreds of individuals in governments across the globe, it's disheartening to realize that only a handful of women occupy leadership roles. That's precisely why there is a need for the so-called "women's card."
In the year 2023, with so much progress happening in the world, it's disheartening to admit that women are no closer to breaking those infamous glass ceilings. The struggles persist, and in some cases, they feel even more pronounced in the midst of a pandemic. Yes, jobs exist, but who is getting hired for those roles? In everyday interactions, women are told to stop talking, ignored entirely, or worse, reduced to mere objects in the room rather than active participants. It's as if our intelligence is deemed less valuable, and we are seen as tokens to fulfill legal quotas.
Intelligence should never be determined by gender. As human beings, we are all capable of achieving remarkable things, regardless of whether we were born male or female. While science may argue that men and women may excel in different tasks, it's rare to hear the claim that one gender is incapable of accomplishing what the other can. Why? Because deep down, we are all human, except perhaps for those who believe in lizard people. Even in that hypothetical scenario, the lizard men and women would still possess the same capabilities.
In fact, having diverse individuals from all walks of life in practically every setting would propel humanity to greater heights. Just imagine the power of working together, genuinely valuing each other's thoughts and ideas. Consider what we could accomplish as a species. Yet, unlike any other species out there, we devalue individuals solely because of their gender. How does that make any sense?
When will the world change? When will women be given a genuine chance to be equal members of society? Do you think it's possible?
These questions linger in the air, challenging us to envision a future where gender equality is not just an abstract concept but a living reality. It's a call for each one of us to actively strive for progress and champion the rights and opportunities of women everywhere. The time for change is now, and together, we can create a world where women's potential knows no bounds.
