What it's like to live in a tourist and retirement state
It should be obvious that I live in Florida if you have been reading my blogs or watching my vlogs. Even though I don't frequently discuss it, I occasionally make an innocuous comment about it. And I have spent practically all of my life here. I was not born here, but I have essentially lived here my entire life.
Having reached my 30s, I can now state...
I have spent some time here. I would leave immediately if I could. Immediately. because, well... This is annoying. Retirement communities coexist in this state with residents who believe that spring break is the norm for the entire year.
I'm sorry to break the news to visitors and retirees. This is NOT a paradise for vacationers.
It frequently rains (even though I enjoy the rain), there is a ton of traffic, and tourists are almost universally lost when they arrive. Also, they drive SO SLOWLY since they are on vacation and don't have any reason to drive quickly. That just applies to the roadways; if you go grocery shopping or somewhere else, you had better avoid a popular location because it will take you forever due of all the people there.
Nevertheless, my personal favorite is how travelers and retirees believe they can do whatever they want because they are either retired or on vacation!
The state as a whole isn't one big vacation. Here, people reside. People have jobs here. They send their children to school, whereas we don't necessarily visit the beach every day.
Well, some do, but it's not quite as glamorous as people like to portray it. You don't think, "Wow, I get to go to Disney World," if something is something you do every day. Decades Later, after spending an enormous amount of time in Disney, visiting every ride, and knowing where everything is, this is just another theme park. Also, that is one of the primary Field trips that the schools like to provide. Also this year, Disney! Next year, expect Disney!
YES DISNEY OBSESSED PEOPLE! IT GETS OLD!
And speaking of Disney. Since I know what awaits me there all day, I hardly ever enjoy going there. Fanatic Disney fans who believe this to be the be-all and end all. It's not the most incredible spot on earth.
However, it is a great site in one particular way. Lack of snowstorms and extreme cold. That’s about it.
